    MGA Hand brake handle disassembly

Has anyone ever actually disassembled the MGA hand brake lever internals? From the schematic, I would think the button unscrews from the rod, but either I'm mistaken, or mine is badly seized. Don't...

MGA Re: Mystery MGA chassis part

The size is similar, and I had looked at the spring shackles, but the bolt-hole orientation is different. The curved cutout would seem to go around a chassis tube or steering rack.

    MGA Mystery MGA chassis part

Body-off rotisserie restoration, and ready to rejoin body and chassis. But I can't recall where these two mirror-image parts go. Road grime tells me they are from underneath, and I assume there's one...

General Tech Re: Prime over Chassis Saver?

Magnet Paints says satin Chassis Saver has wax in it. In MGA Guru's voluminous text, found a mention of priming over Chassis Saver, so I guess it's okay. It's only underneath anyway!

General Tech Prime over Chassis Saver?

Barney uses this stuff, so I bought some for use under fenders and such. Now I want to be sure I can spray epoxy primer over it. Company says yes for gloss, no for satin, but I'd feel better hearing...

General MG Re: How do you define the "soul" of a car?

I don't think it's so much the car's soul as what the car does to yours. I bought my first Healey for $300. It had bald tires, paint flaking off and the driver's seat back blocked up with a wooden...

    General MG Replacement gauge faces

I don't need them rebuilt, but wonder if anyone has either a source for replacement gauge faces or knowledge of someone who has managed to use a computer program to reproduce them. Can a Cricut do...

    MGA Synthetic oil??

In college, I worked the lube rack at Houston's BMC dealer, and we used only 30W Valvoline non-detergent oil. Old-timer mechanics said the carbon "sealed" the engine and detergent would clean it off...

    MGA Re: Oil thrower question

All buttoned up Mickey, thanks for asking. Pretty sure the friction will keep it throwing oil, and the orientation is correct (changed to an MGB cover/seal and thrower.

    MGA Oil thrower question

I've read Barney's posts, and the factory workshop manual, but this isn't addressed. Maybe it's too obvious to need it, but in installing the new (correct style) oil thrower, it slides past the back...

MGA Re: What does this founder mark mean?

Thanks, you must be right. The block had been bored .030, and the three by each cylinder was probably an indicator of the oversize of that bore. Duh!

MGA What does this founder mark mean?

1600 engine down to bare block, and after scraping the block surface where the head gasket sits, I find stamped into the machined surface off toward the edge and between each cylinder, a diamond with...

    General MG Brake fluid

We all know what DOT3 brake fluid does to the live rubber seals originally used in BMC cars. While I'm still a good while from needing brakes, I'm wondering if the new rebuild kits and after-market...

General Tech Wire wheel sealing bands?

It's a bit difficult to locate the original rubber sealing bands that went around the rims under the inner tubes to protect them from damage. I seem to remember seeing some other solutions to this....

General MG Solutions for topical MG rear main leak?

I know it's part of the charm, but when I finish my (final) MGA restoration, I will probably give it to my daughter, who might not appreciate the typical oil leaks. Has anyone found a good solution...

MGB Re: Armstrong shock oil- 20W oil?

I bought hydraulic jack oil at Harbor Freight, then misplaced it and got a bottle at Was Mart. Not a hard thing to find. Auto Zone should also have it.

    MGA Correct wheel paint?

If I'm going to sandblast the wire wheels, I want to paint them the correct silver. Anybody know who has the correct paint for Dunlop wheels, or something that can pass for it?
  21. MGA Re: Question for the MGA coupe owners - will I fit?

I've had both, though I'm a bit shorter than you. The roadsters are more valuable to collectors, and if you look, you can find removable hard-tops. But you would still not have roll-up windows...

    MGA Re: Missing under load

Dashpots usually cause spitting back rather than missing. I vote for the distributor. Also remember, if your A has the original style plug wires, they're carbon, and prone to breaking.
