    TR6 Re: Starting

Don't hold the wire at all; hold the metal shell of the spark plug firmly against the engine head or block and you won't get shocked.

    TR6 Re: Starting

One test for spark is to remove one spark plug, put the wire back on it, then lay or hold it against the cylinder head so the metal shell is touching the metal of the engine. Then get someone else...

Re: Ok, NOW, I've heard everything...

I wonder ... "emotional support" may have been a ruse, an excuse to present what he thought of the management that was laying him off. "Circus" would certainly be a polite term for what I frequently...

Re: It doesn't pay to cheat

Some of the people will probably get jail time; Rick Singer has pled guilty but not been sentenced yet.

How well it "pays" remains to be seen, IMO. An Ivy League diploma can be worth a LOT of...

    TR2/3/3A Re: Over drive

I used an in-line holder, hanging off the back of the ammeter. You can see just the end of it, at the top of this photo (taken as I was parting out the wreck).

    TR6 Re: Proper ring gaps

Too big is better than too small; but correct is better than wrong. Specified end gap is .010" to .015"; at .022" you would be starting with rings that are, in effect, already worn. Probably not...

    TR2/3/3A Re: Over drive

The fuse protects both wiring and solenoid, but mostly the solenoid. Possibly less important now, as new solenoids are a lot less expensive than they used to be, but still a good idea, IMO.

    I use...

    Re: "Power Wall"?

That is an overall average power consumption, based on "average" usage, so it takes into account the compressor not running full time (and obviously makes assumptions on how often you open the door,...

    Re: "Power Wall"?

Seems to me there's something wrong with this picture. 3.5kW is quite a bit of power, roughly 3.5 horsepower. Well pumps vary no doubt, but I can't imagine it's more than 1hp. ISTR mine is 1/4hp. ...

    TR2/3/3A Re: Rotating shift lever

Possible, if you have an early car. They were introduced at TS9593 according to the SPC. The whole shift lever changed at the same time.

Kind of tricky to add that hole, IMO, get the depth and...

    TR2/3/3A Re: Rotating shift lever

Right, should be a long bolt that goes through the shift lever and both sides of the cap and extension, which holds it straight. Bolt should be obvious if you just remove the rubber boot....

    TR2/3/3A Re: Bi-Specticles

I've tried flat, they were useless. Convex I find quite useful; but a bit of a pain to keep adjusted. Pedestrians (including me) have a bad tendency to bump them, and of course you can't adjust...

    TR2/3/3A Re: 30 AMP Fuses

AGC 20 is pretty close. Not exact, the size is slightly different; but it will fit in the TR3 fuse holder and has about the right current rating.

    TR2/3/3A Re: 30a 5 pin universal relay

I don't believe Bosch even makes relays any more; they sold that business off to Tyco some years ago.

Myself, I'd just chalk it up to bad luck and install another cheap relay. Seems like it's...

    TR6 Re: Clutch issues

Something else worth checking sooner rather than later is crankshaft end float. The half-thrust washer is a known weak spot in the TR6, and can wear so badly that it becomes a clutch issue.

    TR6 Re: Clutch issues

Does the clutch engage right at the floor when it is working? If so, your problem might be as simple as accumulated wear at all the linkage pivot points.
The TR6 doesn't have a lot of allowance for...
  22. TR5/TR250 Re: TR250 question (Not asking for a friend)

+1 on systematic troubleshooting, rather than replacing the entire electrical system.
Ammeter is most likely IMO, but by no means the only possibility.

TR2/3/3A Re: Don't throw anything away.

The wiper wiring shown in many diagrams is wrong for all but the earliest TR3s. If you have the wiper motor on the left, then the switch is supposed to ground terminal 1 to make the motor run...
