    Re: Miracles do happen

Sounds like the main miracle was having you & your wife as parents!

Nice find, BTW. I've been surprised the past few times I've stopped in Albuquerque, seems like it's gone downhill a lot in the...
  2. TR2/3/3A Re: shifting tower shifting rods on an early tr3 tower

You also probably wouldn't want the 3-4 fork from an earlier TR2, as it won't have the ramp for OD in 3rd.

The ramps are easy enough to see, though, should be reasonably obvious if you look for...

    TR2/3/3A Re: Reproduction TR3A Grille

So that says your gauge does read kind of high. 190F at the bulb on a hot day sounds entirely reasonable to me, as does slightly less than that on a cooler day.

I think your only problem is your...

And what did the gauge read when your IR gun said 190?
  6. TR2/3/3A Re: What weight transmission oil in a tr3 with OD?

Triumph changed their specification around 1958-59, from motor oil to gear oil. Supposedly to make the countershaft bearings in the main gearbox live longer.

If your car is earlier than that,...

  8. TR2/3/3A Re: shifting tower shifting rods on an early tr3 tower

The OD bump is not on the shift rod, its on the fork. All TR3-TR6 have them.

All but the last couple thousand TR2 did lack the bumps for OD in 2nd & 3rd, but the later forks will still fit and...

Re: Elon Musk wants to what?

There's no doubt Elon is a dreamer; but a lot of his dreams have panned out pretty good and I think there is more to come. Others have also worked on various forms of man-machine interface, but...
  10. TR2/3/3A Re: shifting tower shifting rods on an early tr3 tower

The cover castings will even interchange between 3 synchro and 4 synchro if you change the shift rods.

The book talks about the shims being important, in the section on adding OD to 2nd gear. I...

Re: I fear for the future of the republic...

Worst part is, they probably all have a "high school education". That's why everyone throws such a fit over having to pass a test to graduate; they can't do it!
  12. TR2/3/3A Re: shifting tower shifting rods on an early tr3 tower

Yes, the rods are the same for either OD or non-OD. They changed for synchro 1st, though.

TR6 Re: Frosted rear plastic window

Not really. I'm sure it doesn't last as long as the original coating, but I haven't really paid any attention. Depends a lot, I'm sure, on local weather, whether it's stored indoors, etc.

The Novus 3 step cleaner seems to work pretty good. Idea being you start with a fairly aggressive abrasive to remove the oxidized/damaged surface, then a finer abrasive to polish the surface....
  15. TR2/3/3A Re: The big brass drain plug on the OD does not thread in easily

The little ball bearing is a plug. Just like the larger plug, the hole was used during manufacture to drill an internal passage, then at least in theory permanently plugged off.

TR6 Re: Engine dies slow left turn.

    And is that normal somehow??
Some old mechanical injection systems modulated fuel pressure to control mixture, but AFAIK, fuel pressure should be constant for a modern EFI. Any desired change in...
  17. TR2/3/3A Re: The big brass drain plug on the OD does not thread in easily

Whoops, sorry, I didn't (can't) see the photos on my phone. You've got the wrong plug! The screen with the retaining bolt only fits with the early hex head plug. The later plug with the notches...
  18. TR2/3/3A Re: The big brass drain plug on the OD does not thread in easily

The early plug with the hex and the bolt did not originally have magnets. There might be room for one, but on mine, it interfered with the screen.

BTW, there should also be a flat washer, and a...

    TR2/3/3A Re: Reproduction TR3A Grille

Before I got too excited about the 200F part, I'd want to double or triple check that the gauge is accurate. Those old mechanical gauges often read high, especially if the engine has ever been...

TR6 Re: Engine dies slow left turn.

I'd try hooking up a test light to the hot wire at the coil (and at the ignition module if it's fed separately), so you can watch it when the problem happens.

Also a fuel pressure gauge (not...

I dunno, I've not been very happy with this HP. Keyboard quit working, got that fixed under warranty, but didn't get it back until warranty expired. Touchscreen quit just a few months after that.
