Re: A little "Stay-at-Home" Healey Nostalgia

A great story, thanks for sharing, any BJ8 was a few years younger than my current daily driver then. I regret not having a chance to meet him, I was still in high school in 1977, and a year away...

    Re: Paint code

BMC YL12, the color was also used by MG and Jaguar for a number of years, but matching old colors with new paint formulas can tricky. I have had good luck with a couple orders from autocolorlibrary...
  3. Re: Contemplating my own mortality - but not because of Covid (at least not directly

I had already started to get out of the mindset of--"you can't have too much stuff" but we moved recently and that drove the point home.

I still have too much stuff, but most of it is organized...

    Re: Steering not right

That was fun, from the bleacher seats anyway. When I have a problem like that, I go over in my mind over and over again, somewhere along the spectrum of enjoyable mental exercise and manic...

    Re: Steering not right

There is a lot more expertise than I have on this forum and topic, but I will add a few things that may be somewhat relevant.

First, when I have a problem on a car after I fixed something, I go...

    Re: What you getting done?

Elliot, I did the exact same job a couple weeks ago, though my ceilings are quite a bit lower. I thought I did a pretty good job with the repairs, but one area kept lifting and cracking, so I have...

Look s great--enjoy it--not a great time for a lot of things, but great time to be working on cars and driving.

    Re: TV "car guys"

Flip side of young kids not being able to drive old cars, my "new cars" are relatively old. Being confronted with one of the new automatic transmission control devices, not simple PRNDL, when asked...

TR6 Ľ Re: A lot has happened. Update on my project

Rebuilt the differential, I am impressed, I have tried most everything, sometimes even successfully, but have never gotten beyond the oil seals on a differential.

    Re: Fuel prices

Last I actually saw they were still a little over $2.00, but that was a couple days ago. According to gas buddy they have dropped under $2.00 a gallon at a lot of places.

Not a good time for a...

Re: When do you replace things?

I have driven British cars since my first Sprite in 1978. I have never had a coil failure either. Have replaced a few, just because it wasn't running right and I had a spare. I replaced on my...
  12. Re: Need to Change Our Dental Insurance Provider - Suggestions/Ideas?

I have always looked at what I would project to spend on dental vs. what I would spend on dental insurance (it is a little easier to predict, guesstimate couple cleanings and a cavity) and decide it...

That looks really nice, have been working under my car lately, wish the frame looked that good.

  15. Re: Things to Do While You are Sheltering in Place

I took a couple calculus courses in college. Somewhere in the college classes it went from being fun and easy to hard and something I had to work at, but still could do it.

    Fast forward about 25...
  16. Re: I'll take This Can't Be Good for $200, Alex.

You are a funny guy, glad you kept your sense of humor. I usually attach the springs on the top or bottom, whichever seems to make more sense, slip the shoes on, then persuade the second spring on...

TR6 Ľ Re: New (Old) Member

Good luck, TR6s are better than many cars for rust repair because most everything unbolts. Make sure to check the differential mounts (known to crack) and rear trailing arm mounts (can rust/weaken)....

    Re: My BJ8 Barn Find

Generally agree, but I enjoyed watching Roger Barr on Chasing Classic Cars. They would show him doing things that would actually make a car work, not just swearing and yelling at their partners. ...

I am going to go against the grain. At least for working on cars and most common round the house and yard chores I have most everything I need. I have resisted the urge lately to buy more (I...
