    I put the new clutch and brake master cylinders in last week. My previous set-up had shims on the brake master and no shims on the clutch master. The brake pedal sat higher than the clutch pedal....

    Following your thinking, which problem were they then trying to solve? I am guessing (and that is all that it is) that the shims on the brake pedal were used to adjust the height of the brake...
