Went through the process as outlined and found the culprit. It was a bad 3 & 4 gear switch.

I found a website that showed some of the screw used in the glovebox. The hinges on a 67 BJ8 used straight slot screws, the other screws were phillips.

Which is the correct door knob for a 59 bugeye?
The little ones have press in plugs, while the larger ones have screw threads. I have a vague inkling that the knob on the right is from an MGA...
