2015 1960 TR3A project

pretty much a daily journal

  1. Fretted crank hub fix.

I had installed the Moss narrow belt conversion with a dampener pulley a couple of years ago.
it seemed to perform well & I was happy with the results.....right up until the pulley failed.
turns out the woodruff key was only partially covered by the pulley boss. But you could not see that from the front, because the spacer blocks your view.

the key gradually rockered back and finally broke off, allowing the pulley to spin on the hub, wallowing ...
  2. Cold ram air intake (poor mans version)

After noticing a power drop-off after the car had been running awhile & watching the temp. gauge gradually creep up. I looked into a cold air intake system for my TR3A. But could find nothing that was customized & had an enclosed duel carb. airbox.

So I did the next best thing:

I made a simple & inexpensive air intake modification.
    Bought a generic brake line cooling scoop (6"x 3.5") with a centered 3" port , a Spectre 3" x 28" ...

  3. Claying your car, before you polish

I only thought my car was clean.

I have never used clay before. Really didn't even know it was out there until a friend told me about it recently. The whole concept around clay is to use the tacky clay to strip your car's top coat of contaminates, ground in debris, etc., most of which you can't even see. But if you were to gently rub your hand on the surface you would probably feel.

There are several makers of clay for finishing your car.
the ones I looked at ...
  4. TR3A convertible top install

I'm going to try and give a detailed account, here:

I had been postponing this job for over a year.
Primarily because there was no complete professional instructions I could find, in one place.

This top is a Robbins everflex sold by TRF. It was a previous return item so I got it for about $200.00 over a year ago.

Installation is really a pretty simple job & I had installed a tonneau of the same material a while back.
    I guess a lot of the ...

  5. single key chromed hardware replacements

all five locks on my car needed a different key:
    doors: different one each
(universal question: why bother having locking doors on a TR3?)
    trunk
    glovebox
    ignition

When I was tightening down a wobbly door handle, I broke a stud.
That got the ball rolling. started looking closely at all the hardware and didn't like the pitting & rather dull chrome.
Moss offers a set that are all keyed the same. ($175.00). That was the catalyst. ...
