Happened to this BMW in Boston last night:

Reminds me of this scene from "Backdraft". (trying very hard to avoid making generalizations about entitled BMW and Mercedes drivers.)

Kudos to the firefighters for slamming the Bimmer! They could easily have routed the hose around the car. Hope the owner had to wait a loooooong time to be able to leave.

Talk about getting hosed! Hope he got fined on top of the damage.

Nice to see someone reap the rewards of being a jacka$$.
P.S. not all BMW owners are jerks (I hope)

You joke, but you're right!!! Specifically the 91 318is is a cult car... There is a forum dedicated just to that model and year! It's crazy. They call it the "Poor man's M3" It was the only year that the E30 got that M42 (or whatever) engine.
All that just means I get to ask a premium for mine when I sell it. I'm just not into all that. Those guys are really snobby about the '91 318is.

An old friend of mine was a fireman... and in his early days, he was the grunt in charge of looking up the hoses... and the experienced guys expected those hoses to be ready to fill with water when they got to the end of them (the nozzles) for use. He said he'd broken car windows before (and enjoyed it); there was no time to waste.

Hope this guy received a fine as well.

Boston police said an officer ticketed the vehicle last night. The fine for such a violation is $100. https://www.bostonglobe.com/metro/2014/04/10/boston-firefighters-run-hose-through-car-parked-front-hydrant-east-boston-fire-scene/U6jeEBScIhlW3YutCLPS8L/story.html Be really good if there were some leaky hose connections where it ran through the Bimmer's interior.

Turns out I have a cult car too. The M coupe. I had no idea about that or how few they built. I just saw a sports car that you could carry a bunch of stuff in.

Now for the REALLY important question: what was an Xfinity van doing there at night? I can't ever seem to get them to come to my house in the middle of the day! :wink-new:

EAST BOSTON (CBS) – A man who ignored a fire hydrant put Boston firefighters at risk Wednesday night. The man who parked his new BMW in front of a fire hydrant slowed the battle to (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/04/10/illegally-parked-bmw-smashed-by-firefighters-was-brand-new/#)East Boston homes.

Firefighters were forced to smash the windows and thread the fire hose through the carhttps://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/04/10/illegally-parked-bmw-smashed-by-firefighters-was-brand-new/#).

The fire on Lexington Street grew to eight alarms (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/04/09/firefighters-battle-6-alarm-fire-in-east-boston/) before crews were able to get control. No one was hurt, but nearly three dozen people have to find a new place to live.
The man had just bought the BMW and the registrationhttps://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/04/10/illegally-parked-bmw-smashed-by-firefighters-was-brand-new/#) was just two days old. He also got a $100 fine.
“He was mad,” Rafael Henriquez said.
Henriquez is friends with the car’s owner. He watched as firefighters busted through the windows to hook their hose onto the hydrant.
“I wanted to cry for him,” Henriquez said. “Of course he brought that on himself.”
In fact, Boston firefighters say the only thing on their minds was getting water as quickly as possible to the burning homeshttps://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/04/10/illegally-parked-bmw-smashed-by-firefighters-was-brand-new/#) which were at that point fully engulfed. Since it had gone to eight alarms, all the closer hydrants were taken. The one blocked by the BMW was a street away. “You don’t want to lose the full force of the water you’re getting from the hydrant,” Steve MacDonald of Boston Fire said. “It’s important to be as straight as possible.”
https://cbsboston.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/bmw2.jpg?w=420&h=236 (https://cbsboston.files.wordpress.com/2014/04/bmw2.jpg)Boston Firefighters ran a hose through this BMW that was parked in front of a hydrant on Lexington Street. (WBZ-TV)

The hose still had a kink even after they got it hooked up, so bystanders pitched in and helped firefighters lift and bounce the car away from the curb.
“You can move the car a short distance which is what they did to get the kink out,” MacDonald said. “Again this is all effort that should be concentrated on putting the fire out.”
Back at the scene, firefighters traced the source of the flames to the engine of a Toyota parked in an alley, spreading fire to three nearby buildings, leaving residents like Jaime Hernandez homeless.
“We’re trying to figure out where we’re going to stay and for now my friend offered me shelter at her househttps://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/icon1.png (https://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/04/10/illegally-parked-bmw-smashed-by-firefighters-was-brand-new/#),” Hernandez said.
Residents say the owner of the BMW drove it away with two broken windows and a big dent on the side. "

As a personal aside, I lived on Lexington St a couple of blocks down from where this happened when I was in school. It's a neighborhood with older wooden framed homes that are really close to one another. You want to get water on a fire really quickly before it starts spreading to other homes. This is what the fire looked like for which the alarm was called

We lost two jakes in a tragic fire in Boston last week. No one is going to be siding with anyone that makes their job more difficult.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me that thinks that BMW drivers are jerks. To me, they come in two varieties: The ones who drive like every public road is their private autobahn, and the ones who think their car is so valuable that they are afraid to push it beyond 20% of its capabilities, so they drive 10 mph under the speed limit and take every turn as if one false move would send them off a 2000 foot cliff.

Good for the BFD to take out the windows.

Hey I take umbrage at that, I used to drive a 75 2002 and didn't drive like a jerk. Now all those guys that own BMWs made after 1980 are jerks.

It is a great combination. With only 1815 produced for North America, prices will only go up. The Kelly Blue Book value still seems to be in line with the going rate at this point though from my small bit of research.

I had a not so cool 74 2002 which gave me an appreciation for them and a pretty cool 88 535is that was too fast.
Never parked either one in a fire zone.

Rchard, my 75 was the absolute antithesis of cool. I loved that little car.
