View Full Version : TR6 TR6 & GT6 Flywheel, Clutch question:

Howdy Folks,

A friend of mine has a "GT6 Spit". He would like to couple a "TR6" Flywheel, Pressure Plate & Disc. to the existing GT6 drivetrain.

His question is: Would this be a direct bolt on or What modifications would have to be done?

I'm not an expert here, but the input shaft is different between the Spitfire/GT6 and TR6 transmission so I don't see how this could work.

I purchased a new '67 GT6. The clutch was one of three weak parts of the drive line along with the transmission and rear diff. If I dropped the clutch at higher rpm's the clutch would slip so bad that the car would not even move. Replaced the clutch and pressure plate 3 times with the same result.
I never had a chance to compare a TR6 clutch/fly wheel so I don't know if it will even fit the space, the ring gear, and the crank shaft. Or stand up to the GT6 rpm range. But if it does I would have done it especially with an aluminum fly wheel. The original steel flywheel in my TR6 was about 26 pounds and my aluminum flywheel is about 1/3rd that amount. Made a huge difference in the TR6.

Russ, small problem, even if the input shaft would fit, which I feel sure it will, you still have a GT6 clutch plate, because of the splines on the input. You can still add the pressure plate from the TR6. Since you have gone to a lot of work making the Spite 6, why not use the front casing off the GT6 tranny and figure a why to add a Ford T5 to the back end of it. Just a little dream I had, even saved a GT6 bell housing, just in case I ever get time.

Hi Folks,

The gent I was referring to has made a decision to go ahead & buy the "TR6" parts & try to couple them to his "GT6". He was told by other folks that he should not have a problem?!?!?!? "LOL"!!!

I spoke to a gent at "Moss Mtrs" (DJ is his name) & he being an owner of a "GT6" and the "Triumph" Guru @ Moss said; It is "NOT" a direct bolt on & there are lots of things that would have to be modified.
