Installing my new fuel pump on my 80 DHC, i accidently broke a tab off my stock coil. Decided to go ahead and add a Lucas Sport Coil to replace. In my Haynes manual the CEI elec. Ignition isn't even mentioned. There is a ballast resistor below the stock coil on the firewall. Should i A. remove the Ballast resistor(open). B. Remove the resistor and close the circuit(short). C. If not A or B then what? Hoping some other Wedge-Head has been through this. Thanks for the help. Love this Forum.

Hmmm. A very good question I'd keep the ballast resister in place 'as is' and test. A Sport Coil is by definition a lower resistance than stock and so when you factor in the ballast in series you will get less voltage across the coil under normal running.

On the other hand the CEI module is notorious for dying from the heat so I'd worry about putting more current through it all the time (the ballast prevents this).

My two cents advice is to keep it stock until proven otherwise.
