View Full Version : fancy wood shift knob install

I always wanted one of those wooden shift knobs. I got one from VB. When tightened up the logo wasn't straight. I thought I'd try to pop the logo off, seemed like a good way to ruin the wood. I thought I'd try a little wooden dowel cut down as a spacer inside, when I tried to tightened down, it popped the logo off for me nice as can be. I then tightened the knob and re-glued the logo in the right position. Turned out to be a good safe way to get that thing off, thought I'd share. A long enough bolt the right thread would do it too of course.

I bought a nice one off e-bay for the wife's B. The seller had the good sense to NOT install the logo. It came separate.
Tightened the knob down tight and THEN applied the logo.
Glad you were able to get the logo oriented correctly.
Little things like a weird angled logo drive me crazy.

A jam nut under the shift knob was used to keep the logo orientated correctly.
A jam nut is a thin nut, 5/16 coarse fits the shifters.
