Yep, and I'll bet you dollars to donuts he doesn't have a problem with chickens gettin' sucked into the venturis!

On the GOOD side of this post is this https://su-filters.com/

Maybe we could get a group buy together and order 10 sets???? Anyone interested?

Yes. Will the price come down on a group buy??

Anyone interested? Not me. Every test I've seen says that ordinary paper element filters work better (remove more dirt) than the fancy foam element filters do; and they are still readily available.

See for example https://www.bobistheoilguy.com/airfilter/airtest3.htm

Really, that stuff is called "hardware cloth". No matter though, a chicken still can't get thru it.

The original filters are about as effective...keeping leaves and birds from the intakes.

I would be interested if we got a lower price with a group purchase.

Thanks.

I really like these and just threw out the group buy idea without contacting the maker. But I would "assume" that like many items a group buy of 10 or more would be leverage to get a deal.

So keep posting yea or nay and if there's enough, I'll get in touch with the mfgr.

Reading between the lines it looks that the CNC is setup to make 4 sets at a time so like-set orders are preferred. PM me if you are interested. I'm not in a rush for mine as the engine is still apart.

Here's his reply:
<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:] First of all, thank you for your interest in our products!
As to a volume discount, that would depend on the order "make up" as the filters that fit on HS6 equipped TR4s are not the same as the filters that fit on H6 equipped TR3s. Some of the later model TR3s also will need to change/reroute the overflow pipes of the H6 carbs in order for the filters to fit properly. The TR4s can utilize the 2.6" filter length while most TR3s will need the 1.6" length due to inner fender issues. So many of these cars have had various modifications over the years it is hard to come up with any iron clad rules as to what will fit what.
All that being said, if you are interested in an order of 4 sets (the discount applies in multiples of 4 - i.e. 4,8,12,16 etc.) I can offer you a 10% discount on a trial order of 4 sets providing they are not TOO different. Also some additional lead time is necessary on such an order - for Triumphs I think something on the order of a "fortnight".
Shipping is another area that would offer a considerable savings if the entire shipment could go to a single US location. Otherwise shipping would be about the same as advertised as we ship at our cost.[/QUOTE]

Looks like they are old gas mask filters...

I would go for it for my TR3A! The air filters are a nice touch.

I would also like to join a group in getting a pair for my stock 1962 TR-3B with bigger engine (TCF 486L).

Keep me in mind.

Thanks.

Think we're about there for TR3x filters.

Am I missing it on the website - do they do a Triumph logo? The Healey logo they did looks good.

They do a Triumph logo.I bought one 2 months ago and it doesn't fit my TR3A. He forgot to offset and raise the carb openings. The opening for the carb is right in the center. He obviously never put one on a TR3, because it will not fit.

That's odd he would have to offset opening. On my 3A, the K&amp;Ns are centered and are 1-3/4" thick. Clearance on the inner fender is about 1/2".

What did he say about the fit problem?

Murray

He just told me to return them. If your filters were centered there would not be any room for the fuel overflow tube.

Has anyone made a decision on proceeding to buy a set?

Thanks.

Not yet AFAIK. I don't quite understand Murray's problem with the fit as the overflow tube is behind the plane of the filter base.

Peter,

Are you going to buy these or the K&amp;N set? I just received my Moss catalog and the K&amp;N 1 3/4" deep is $67.95.

I measeured the air intake hole on my SU carb and it is 1 1/2". I have the original black filters and plan to replace them with a nice looking chrome set. They are approximately 1 3/4 deep.

Am I correct to beleive my SU carbs are 1 1/2" as that is the size of the air intake?

If I go with K&amp;N, I think the correct size would be 1 3/4" deep for a 1 1/2 carb.

I'm ordering my stub stacks today. Braided hoses and clamps should be here in two weeks.

Thanks.

Paul

Yeah, what's going on with the "group buy". I'm interested. I have a TR3A, and that needs the offset for the over flow tubes. What kind of price are we looking at here??

Edit: I was going to put back on the original air filters, but I don;t think they are much more effective then what I have one there now. As someone mentioned earlier...it keeps out the leaves and birds...

He said 10% off when ordering 4 sets of like filters ("like" 4 offset bases I assume.)

I am running K&amp;N 1-3/4" depth NO offset on my 3A. The overflow tubes are attached with a small piece of plastic tubing and I have no interference issues.

I want a set for my 4A with the Triumph book logo engraved.

If we have 4 people, all we have to do is contact him and let him know and he will collect the payment and ship individually (as I understand it). What he needs is to have 4 people to setup the CNC mill to do all 4 at the same time.

Do you know where he is located? I have a vague notion I have met him or spoken to him here in Tucson.

I ask because, although I am not interested in owning a set, I might be able to take a stock TR3A (59) or a TR4 (64 w/Strombergs) to him for a trial fit if the set-up is in question.

Geo,

Thanks for the offer to help. I am interested in replacing my stock air filters with either K&amp;N or these. I took off my original front filter today and did notice it is offset--and I assume that is for the rubber drain line.

If I am going to spend money, I sure want the new filters to be a simple bolt on.

Peter,

I took off my front filter and noticed it is offset to the front of the car to allow room for the rubber drain tube.

If I went with K&amp;N or these, would I have a problem with the drain tube?

Thanks.

Paul

I'll have to look at the K&amp;Ns on my 3A, prety sure they're centered.
