My cover has been bondo-ized and is pretty funky looking. Is there a source for these other than the local junk yard? I see they're listed as NLA at the usual suspects, and there appears to be no crossover from TR250 or TR6. Any suggestions?

Have you checked e-bay? I think I saw one there in the last week or so.

Tony, Yes I've been looking there and Craigslist too. I may easily have missed it though.

Random thought: Are you sure it's "bondo-ized"? The GT-6's and TR-6's all had an oatmealish pasty material on the front of them. Supposedly for noise reduction. I think most people clean it all off and leave it off.

A note in the Moss catalog for TR3-4 timing chain covers says:

"Original timing covers have what looks like the leftovers of the last batch of body filler stuck on the outside. Several owners of potential Concours-winning cars have spent many happy hours removing this. Donít! Itís there as a sound deadener."

I don't know if this also true with the six cylinder engines. Could it be sound deadener by an chance?

I haven't pulled the cover yet and don't know for sure but this is a glob that only covers about 1/4 of the face of the cover.

Man-oh-Manischevitz is this place the best or what?? I'd have picked away at that schmutz for hours only to find no hole there. Thanks again to all.
I will now upgrade to the next level of membership, and put my savings on a new cover to good use!!

Man-oh-Manischevitz... Had to laugh when I read this. Just how many times have you been "19 again" to remember THAT ad slogan?

Great expression from the late 50's to early 60's.

This is what I did with the goop on mine:
