View Full Version : Info on how to identify transmissions?

Does anyone know of any decent website or anything to help identify a few transmissions I have sitting around. They are both Triumph transmissions non-overdrive. From reading around there are 3 rail and 2 rail transmissions? Also fully synchronized and non-synchro transmissions? I can't seem to find a decent place showing me visual differences or detailing the differences by casting or stamped numbers. If someone has a spot to find this info I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Jorgen,

afraid I do not know of any pictorial site to help identification of transmissions but, this site https://club.triumph.org.uk/prefix1.htm can be used to work out which one you have.
For the small chassis cars atleast, single rail gearboxes have a flat-ish top cover and the three rail box has the top cover extension coming from the top of the box and supports the gear stick.
