View Full Version : Using the Search function

I"ve had a few questions lately about the search function, so I decided to create the following video. The key to remember is that the search function will only return the first 300 results it finds. So, if you want to search older posts, you need to use the Advanced Search and set up the proper search time criteria.

Can we still "embed" youtube (etc.) videos? I see the one in your original post, but when I use the Video icon and enter a youtube url, I just see the html in my post.

Then I noticed today that several other folks here only have videos linked with html - and the video itself isn't actually showing in their post.

The "how to" youtube above shows:

 <param name="wmode"ransparent">

I used the Full Reply and the Add Video to post, and then viewed the source text of the post. Instead of the html in the "how to" post, my post only showed:

https://www.youtube.com/v/ZzDlQZWROj0ith nothing but that showing in the post window. Just wondered if I'm missing something.

(so I deleted it)

Thanks.
Tom

Hmmm, you should be able to post videos...

https://www.youtube.com/v/ZzDlQZWROj0

Although when I try the URL you used (above) it does not work either. I notice that the URL I used is different than the URL I used in my video:

Html:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzDlQZWROj0
[/QUOTE]

Notice (above) that the URL I used has "/watch?v=....." in it. YOu URL does not have the "watch?" in the URL. I'm not sure how you are capturing the URL, but the way that you shoudl do it is to 1) watch the youtube video, then while watching a video, copy the URL from the browser address area. The URL should have that "/watch?...." in it I think. Then use the "enter media tag" function in the editor and select youtube video.

Hi Basil - thanks for the quick reply.

Actually, I was doing exactly that. Watch the youtube video on the youtube website. Copy the entire url (including the "watch?" etc.. Click the Video icon [edit: the Enter Media tag icon] on the reply window; paste the video url I copied from Youtube into the small Video post window.

What seems to happen is that when I close the Video mini-window, then click Submit, the "post video" engine doesn't add all the code that's needed (?).

Tom
second edit: after clicking Enter Media icon, I then choose Youtube before pasting the url.
