ok, so i'm getting ready to paint up the exterior of my engine and put it all together. i've been thinking about this some time and can't figure out how to paint the engine apart without ending up with unpainted metal exposed after assembly. the main area i've thought of is the front of the block that the front plate doesn't cover. it looks like the front of the block should be smooth like the top of the block, so that says no paint to me, but rusting? i guess i'd like to hear opinions, i'm probably just making this too hard.

i've already painted the timing cover and oil pan (outside only), both plates and the mounting attachments.

Flinkly: I used an engine enamel by POR. What I
liked was it can be applied with a foam brush. This
makes it easy to touch-up or paint in areas later
that couldn't be done so easily if the engine is
sprayed.

in a previous post someone said to heat the block prior to painting, seems that cast iron holds some moisture, heating the block first dries it before you paint

I'm hoping that mine gets several hours in the hot sun prior to painting this afternoon.

I'm using Dupli-Color High Temp Ceramic for mine.
