View Full Version : If you could own any Mini..?

OK, guys and gals.....you're driving your Mini down the road and you see something shiney on the shoulder. You stop and pick it up. It's an old brass lamp, and as you brush off the dirt......poof! Out pops a genie (who, unfortunately, looks nothing like Barbara Eden).

He says, "You get ONE wish (sorry, but the economy has been bad)....you can have any one Mini you want...make, model, year."

What Mini would you pick?

Any Mini Cooper S - old style or new...but, if new there are a few extras I would absolutely NEED!

I'd want my first Mini....a '64 Morris Cooper 1071 "S". Old English White with a black roof. Complete with that J.C. Whitney tachometer held to the steering column with a large hose clamp.

Now, mind you, I dearly love "Dudley DoRight", my current '72 Mark III 1293 Super Cooper.......but that old '64 was my first....sort of like an old flame you never forget.

I had an 850 with a 1275 and a 1275 Clubbie, and they were great fun......but I'd *really* like
Paddy Hopkirk's "works" Monte Carlo racer (it's presently in a collection in N.Ireland).

I have always liked the clubman's with the wood sides in that mustard color they used to come in.

I would settle for my 1968 blue Morris 838 cc, my first car (640 pounds new if I remember rightly) but almost any year would do provided it had the hydrolastic suspension, which was extraordinary considering the short wheel-base and tiny wheels.

Just got back from Watkins Glenn and the vintage races. The Minis did GREAT! especially blue ones with the union jack on the roofs!

Pretty funny! I have picture of that car that I took on Saturday at LR.
I used to own a 1275 Clubman sedan. I usually see a Clubbie wagon at the Moss Fallfest (next week in NJ) and at the TVR Woodwork show (Oct 11-12, also here in NJ).
I considered running my box-Spridget at the Lime Rock Vintage event this year, but the SVRA fees add up to almost $800, and you really don't get that much track-time. I'll be running a club race at Lime Rock on Nov 1st (for a lot less $$$$).
