There is a new version of the New Mini with a diesel engine. I'm guessing its a Euro only thing.

I know these would never really fly here…but it’s too bad. Really nice car!

With the Toyota direct-injection, there’s probably very little “smelly-diesel” effect and CO2 emissions should be nice and low. Turbo and intercooler with 6 speed make for decent “umph” (0-62mph in 13.8 seconds…much faster than my old Mini 850).

With 58.9 MPG, I wish more commuters would pick cars like this….it would make much more sense than what I see on nearby Rt. 80.

But diesels got a bad rap in the 80s when Detroit used them as a poorly executed quick fix for better mileage. Personally, I've banished my 300SD to the curb because I got tired of the soot in the garage, so, having run out of sides of my mouth to talk out of...

There's been some talk about a diesel engine for Jeeps on the Wrangler forums. Apparently there is also a problem with US diesel, it is not clean enough or something.

Strange, it seems clean enough for the few diesel rabbits that toy around. I'd love to buy diesel if it were an option.

Thing is ! How do you know the difference between your engine running right and your big end bearings, con rods and valves smashed to pieces ?

That's easy, Gary! If your bearings and rods are getting banged up you'll have lots of noise and no acceleration, while if your engine is running right, you'll have...oh, never mind.
