I got my recovered seats back from Al the Upholsterer today, and am quite pleased. He's done a great job and at a very reasonable price. I'm going for a black with white piping interior, and have the Moss kit on hand. So I selected the closest grain and colour for the seats from a big book he had. Can't wait to see these in the car, but I'm a long way off that moment.

Nice job. He did replace the padding as well?

Yes, everything new except the frame. He didn't use the standard bits and pieces, but fabricated what he needed, apparently.

If you don't mind my asking, how much (ballpark) did that set you back?

Any just to be clear - that is not a Moss kit - that is all custom made?

$200 per seat. He prepared all the materials himself ... so not the Moss kit.

I looked at the cost of seat kits, and read various articles about the DIY, then I started 'phoning around. At this guy Al's price, buying a kit and doing it yourself makes no economic sense!

Julian,

Those seats look like the UK version, without headrests.

Yes, this is a European model '71, and the original seats had no headrests.

Julian,

Thanks for the confirmation. I've always liked the clean look of the UK seats. Wise choice the contrasting piping too!
