Aloha All,

I am in the process of replacing some wiring in my car and have a few questions.

My car has the wide headlight trim rings, how do I remove them? I don't want to damage them or the new paint by prying in the wrong spot. Also what kind of tool works best?

I am also replacing the pigtails on the turn signal / prking lights. I removed the wires without making a note of which wire goes where. These light bulbs have two filaments of different wattage. Which light burns brightest, turn signal or parking?

I've learned my lesson, when I do the rear light I'll make a drawing before taking it apart.

Safety Fast,
Dave

Hello Dave,
I have always used a flat screwdriver to remove headlamp rims. Most have a small screw just off 6 o'clock, remove that and lever from the bottom outward. You will actually be levering against the headlamp bowl and not your paintwork.

With combined side\indicator light units the bright filament is the indicator. (Fed by a green\ red or green\white cable). The side is fed by a red cable and black being earth. The correct rating should be 6\21 watt.

Thanks Alec, it seemed logical that the britest would be the indicator. Appreciate the confirmation. Regarding the trim rings, I have the later type without the screw to retain them. The lower half of the ring is deeply recessed into the front cowl. It would seem the only place to pry them loose would be on the top half of the ring.

Dave
