I am curious what people's thoughts on the high mileage oil you see being sold. I see that Castrol has a 20w-50 high mileage oil. Is it any better than the regular Castrol 20w-50 oil? Thanks

I think they contain additives to control oxidation..

I have a Cat diesel with 1,540,000 miles on it...and almost 1,000,000 miles since it was overhauled. I use 15W40 Mobil Delvac oil...no one makes high mileage oils for these HD diesels...makes you wonder why they do for autos...could it be MORE PROFIT?

Nahhhhhhhh...

High mileage motor oil is a ripoff.

Some high mileage oils may also contain an additive to reduce leaks... something that softens old seals. That won't do a darn thing for that leaky scroll seal at the back of a TR crank.

I almost bought the high milage castrol but took it out of the cart, refusing to be a victim of marketing (in this case, atleast). Oil is the best thing for seals...make sure your engine has plenty.

I was just thinking of how the "old-timers" used to regard detergent oil back in the 50's and 60's.

They all thought that you'd have bubbles coming out of the oil filler if you used it....

In the service station that I worked in in the early 60's, we always had a hard time (and often futile time) convincing these guys to use even a single-grade detergent oil..much less a multi-grade!
