View Full Version : Thermostat Replacement Question

I'm replacing the thermostat in my 1975 TR-6 (the engine is from a 1970 GT-6) and I'm wondering if it's a good idea to drill a 1/8 inch hole in the flange of the thermostat? We used to always do this on our small block Chevy's to allow some water to flow thru if the thermostat fails in the closed position. Has anyone tried this on a Triumph? Thanks as always, David K.

If you are really concerned about the thermo locking up, just carry a new gasket with your spares and pull the thermo of it freezes closed. IMHO an 1/8 hole will not stop it from boiling even at light load. (also, it will require a longer warm-up)
