View Full Version : The keeper of Orange says Halloo

Hello all. Al Navarro, keeper of the Caterham Superlight R known as Orange among the Se7en fans in the US. Live in Hunterdon Co. NJ.

Bruce Bowker told me about this forum many moons ago, but I just rediscovered it thanks to Andrew P. of radiose7en.com...a newish global clearinghouse for all things LSiS (Lotus-Seven inspired Sportscar).

I'm finding forums a bit too addictive right now. So hopefully you'll forgive my lurking.

FYI, I'm one of the co-conspirators of the July 2007 Tail of the Dragon event that will be held in celebration of the Seven's 50th anniversary (yes, I know the first one was sold in October of 1957). A bunch of LSiS have already signed up, but there's always room for more. Note: 7-7-7 TotD meet is brand inclusive, so purists should tread very lightly. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif

Welcome Al!

And good to see another NJ-guy here (We're in Morris Co. and have a summer place in Sussex Co.)

Since you have the *perfect* track-day car, let me remind you that your car would be ideal for one of our EMRA Time Trials.
Even if you don't want to run, you're always welcome to stop by and watch. We have another Seven and other Loti that come pretty regularly to our events. You can find EMRA here:

www.emraracing.org (https://www.emraracing.org)

Here (below the line) is the balance of our '06 schedule (and feel free to contact me if you have any questions).

Regards-Nial McCabe

Would an S-3 Elan be able to sneak into this "brand inclusive" shindig? If I can pull a rabbit outta me sombrero (i.e. get th' bloody thing DONE) I'd consider "being there."

Welcome to the forum, too!!!

Al here. Nial, I'll try and make that Sept 9th, if only to watch. I'll be the guy in the Orange Seven (or black TT, depending). Would love to run my car on the track, but don't know how the insurance folks would feel. I'll call them this week. Also, I assume I have to have the latest Snell car helmet. I currently run a motorcycle helmet (Schuberth, for the flip jaw). I'll look at the ERMA site too.

I'm pretty much committed to the Watkins Glen event (so far as a spectator only), but perhaps I'll drive by Pocono on my way home. My folks used to have a place up there.

Dr. E...We'd love to have you next July, but even an Elan would be stretching our liberal definition of LSiS so we'd put you in a different section of our corral! (The "brand inclusive" thing is a nod to our Locost and Stalker friends in the Se7en world.)

Have fun at the Glen if you don't make it to our's. So many cool things to do...so little time!

I can answer you regarding the insurance company question. They won't cover you.
We had a guy run his brand new Ford GT-40 at an earlier EMRA TT event this year. Ran off and hit the wall. Bend that thing like a pretzel. How'd you like to pay for that out of pocket?!?
I always tell people that if they want to run a car at the track, they have to be able to say they can write it off. It's a cruel truth, but honest.

By the way, we had at least 7 Elises at our combined NASA/EMRA event this past weekend at Pocono. And a Lotus 7 ran the 1-hour enduro with me (nothing like racing in an open car in pouring rain!).

EMRA takes the Snell 95 "M" (motorcycle) or "S" (sport) helmet up to this year. Next year we require the Snell 2000 "M" or "S" helmets.

on public roads with semis to the front, back, and side of me. Not something I'd want to repeat, but a great bonding experience (me bonding with the car).

Look for the "Skyline or bust" post on my blog: gardenstatesevens.org/wordpress

Good story Welcome to the Forum!

I know constructive criticism about someone's website is like telling you your kid is ugly... but....

Man... that white text on a yellow background is really really hard on the eyes. The only way I could read it was to do a CTL-A to select all the text and read it while it is highlighted.

Just a thought....

click on the header of that particular post.

I felt the same way that you did about the type, until I discovered that trick...it's a way to highlight the latest post (which is always on white) on the main page.

Let me know if it helps. And feel free to comment on it. I know I have a few readers, but only my cousin hes felt compelled enough to write so far!
