View Full Version : I can eat 50 eggs.....

or so I thought when I began to tackle the tear-down on this TR3 engine. I feel like Paul Newman having that last egg pushed into his mouth. This thing is killing me. This engine must have seen service in a war zone somewhere, or received zero service on itself. Even though the crank turns, the gears are all spinning and no valves are burnt, the inside looks like it might have a bunch of miles on it. The hardest part so far is to get the block up on an engine stand, will use a come-along on a ceiling joist to accomplish that. Speaking of engine stands, I had to go out and buy a new one, found one at Jeg's that was rated at 2000lbs and folds for storage (since I have none). The critical bolts holding the rotating plate on this thing are less than a #2 rating, went out and got all new hardware and welded the frame up myself to strengthen it up. What do you want for $99 (China). If anyone ever does me a favor again by dropping something off at my door, it better be money. That offer by some of you out there to take possession of the unmolested A-type overdrive unit is looking better and better. Now, how many stamps would that take?

I found a couple S&H Green Stamps under the carpet of my TR4 when stripping the interior. Remeber those? I wonder how much they're worth now?

We could use an annual award on this forum for "Best starting thread title" - this is definitely a contender. I still can't get rid of the image of Newman and that last egg!

How big are your ceiling joists? Be careful not to overload one.
I have a Ford FLathead V8 hanging on a China engine stand. It's never failed. That engine weighs as much as a big block dodge.

I am shaking the bush boss. It actually might take a small cardboard box and a couple of dozens stamps to get that tranny to Seattle, but just let me know how many you need and I will mail them to you.

I read somewhere of a TR owner who, instead of lifting his engine up out the TR, pulled his roof down on his head and his TR.

Cudos to Strother Martin and the line:
"What We Got Here is a failure to Communicate",Boy (I Believe)
Truely one of the best movie lines ever!
One that I'd like to use when I cannot find a replacement part.... Such as an original exhaust manifold for my 4A Hint, Hint, Hint !
