I figure this belongs in general as I'm sure that all the TR's have the same aluminum oil gallery plugs.

On the TR6 block there are 2 aluminum oil gallery plugs one on the front of the engine:
52894

And one above the oil filter:
52893

Do these need to be removed before taking the block to be machined?

If I do need to remove them what is a reasonable substitute for the one in the front? Can a steel one be used?

Thanks

Sorry, Duplicate.

They probably don't have to be removed, but cleaning out the oil galleys will be easier with them gone. The hole at the front already has a pipe thread, so a steel plug can be used. However, the plug has to seat below the surface of the block so the end plate can go on. I had to tap the hole deeper.

The hole on the side of the block is tapped, but not with a pipe thread. A straight thread plug can be used, but you'll have to seal it.

Also, replacement aluminum plugs are available.

Since there is no compelling reason to remove them, then I'm going to leave them in. I have all the other plugs out, so blowing away any debris in those ares should be relatively easy.

Thanks
