1960 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite "Greeny" (https://www.panjo.com/buy/1960-austin-healey-bugeye-sprite-greeny-205100)

Greeny is for sale as I have two other projects, a Bugeye keeper and the Sebring fastback project. I paid $5,366 for the car on eBay and then had it shipped from Florida to Illinois for $900. I won't recover shipping charges and probably not the cost of the extra parts I have acquired, but I would like to get close to purchase price. I am asking $5,500 or near offer.

Greeny is pretty original and complete but in need of restoration. I have over the last year or so been acquiring the missing or needed parts. It is pretty much all there now, with the exception of a Bugeye gas tank and a generator with tacho drive gearbox. Not shown in the pics are the heater blower and rear bumperettes & brackets which are included.

Unfortunately, the car is not rust free, needing the floors replaced or repaired. I do have new floor edge repair sections, but it also needs the footwells replaced, so replacing the main floors would be the way to go. I also have a new rear floor section as it looks as if it had a left rear shunt at some point, and the trunk floor is creased on the driver's corner. It is however solid in the difficult to repair areas around the spring hangers as can be seen in the photos if you follow the link below.

The A pillars show minor rust spots but I don't think these need replacement. The bonnet is solid and virtually rust free. The grill shows some surface patina and has one small dent, but otherwise good as is or re-chromed.

The car has only 4x very early wire wheels (with the old style conventional tires & tubes that still hold air), with 12 tpi splined hubs and drum brakes on the front, and 12 tpi bolt on adaptors on the rear. I have never seen this front drum brake setup before. I have replaced the brake cylinders (new) and Master Cylinder kit, but the Master needs replacing or re-bore. I do have another 7/8" Master if needed and original disc wheel drum brake setup if needed. The car also has a new clutch slave cylinder.

Alternatively, for extra $$, I do have a spare set of front disc brakes, callipers, wire hubs and stub axles and a good 3/4" Master Cylinder if the buyer prefers to upgrade to disc brakes, however these are 8 tpi hubs. These will also need refurbishment.

The car has its original 948cc engine with 1 & 1/8" SU's and smooth case gearbox. I do have a 1275 with clutch installed (no ribcase though) for extra $$ if needed, which will need a rebuild.

The dash has been stripped of vinyl and painted black (not by me). It appears to be mostly unmolested, with one additional hole for a dash light I suspect. The other open holes are for a heater switch and the optional cig lighter, both of which are included. The heater box is present, including the duct from blower to heater box.

The seats are present, frames are reasonable, seat bases and backs are solid, but will need refurbishment. I have the correct door pockets as well, that need recovering. The sidescreens with correct brackets are reasonable, but the sidescreen thumb screws are missing. These are easily obtained from typical suppliers. Cockpit aluminium trim is all present and in good condition.

Roof and tonneau are original - I had the window in the roof replaced but it is too thick and the trimmer did not follow instructions well, so it needs re-doing, but is worth re-doing as the roof would be usable. Tonneau needs a minor repair / alteration. Roof bow is good and moves freely.

Pics can be seen at the following link. The last two pics circa 1997 / 1998 were obtained from the last surviving previous owner.

Here is the link to Bugeye tale if any propsepctive buyers want to read a good story about discovering the VIN and obtaining the title for this car !
