I'm pretty sure that's a two-seater BN6-BN7 hardtop, not for the four-seater convertible BJ7.

Serial number begins with a 4, my understanding is that this designates it for the BJ7, and would have to start with a 4 to be a two seater.

Looks like 4 place, 6 cyl. (BT7 or BN4).

The owner only ever had a 63 BJ7 and 62 BN7.

The hard tops for the BJ7s and BJ8s did not have the two aluminium support bars in the rear window. This hard top is not for a BJ7

Top will fit the two-seater BN7, but will not be correct at the base of the rear window, requiring a wider rubber seal.
Bracket position is off also. Fits at the windscreen, though.

OK, help me out here, what car is it to if its not the BJ7? I just pulled a pic of a BT7 and it does not have the vertical support bars by the window either. The serial indicated that it is for a 4 seater. Soooo... Why would this fit the BN7?

Ryan

The hard top in the pic you pulled is either not an original hardtop but a replica, or the bars are missing.

The top you have is originally for a 4 seat, six cyl. roadster with side curtains. This a BN4 or BT7. The 2 seat (BN7) can accommodate this top, but it won't fit the rear shroud like the correct top would. There's a difference in the rear window and mounting bracket position. Windscreen mounting would be the same, as would the locating pins just behind the doors.
Hope this helps.

One quick way to tell if it is a BN7 top is the 2 seater tops did not have the woven trim around the to finish the edge. They had a aluminum tab that was approx 3 inches on each side at the back where the J hooks attached and fitted under the rear shroud as opposed to the 1.5 inch tab on the 4 seaters. I had a chance to compare a 4 seater and a two seater top side by side. The fiberglass body was same as were the rear vertical bars. There was a slight shape difference in the rear aluminum trim between the corner of the rear window to the vertical support. The two seater top had a dual rear flap of rubber that was held in by a metal plate that sandwiched the two and held them in the bottom of the rear aluminum trim. There was a notch in the inner aluminum trim base the allowed it to sit down on the front of the trim and then on the two seater where it cut inwards allowed the clearance. On the four seater it rested on the complete aluminum surround. Lastly the serial number on the two seater had a 2 on it and the 4 seater had a 4 on it. The front of the top was same on both. With some minor modifications you can make the four seater fit the two seater. On that note I am looking for a 2 seater BN6/BN7 rear cockpit trim. Thanks Rob
