Why a BCF Wiki?
First, what the BCF wiki is NOT. The BCF Wiki is NOT an online discussion forum; The British Car Forum is the place for the usual BCF chat and asking of technical questions, etc.
The purpose of the BCF Wiki is to provide a collaborative, structured and ever-growing Knowledge Base of information, technical, historical, etc., related to the British car hobbie. We have had what could be called a British Car Forum Knowledge Base
for a long time. It was something I implemented in order to provide a growing repository of British car technical data and information. The BCF Knowledge Base works pretty well for what it is, but there are many limitations:
- Limited Editing: Articles are static (they can only be changed by the original author)
- Static Structure: The structure of a Knowledge Base can only be modified by the admin. In a Wiki, any user can change and improve the structure.
- Limited Collaboration: Articles can not be improved upon or added to by others in a collaborative fashion.
The BCF Wiki solves these problems. It allows an open, collaborative environment in which the members of British Car Forum can continuously collaborate on and improve the content and usefulness of the wiki. Plus, it's FUN! If this wiki idea works out the way I hope it will, I may eventually phase out the BCF "Knowledge Base" in favor of this wiki.
