The cubby box lid is wood with a vinyl trim in the same color as the dash. There is a metal plate that the lid is attached to with SMALL wood screws. Has anyone sourced those out? I don't even have an example of one of the screws, so I'm starting from dead last here. TRF does not have them, I haven't checked with anyone else.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated, Tinkerman

I believe that they are #2 flat head, slotted about 3/8" long. I can measure one when I get home tonight to be sure of the size. McMaster has them, but in 100 pkg quantities!

Edit: McMaster link to screws. These are zinc plated, but like I said, I'll verify the size when I get home tonight, unless someone else knows for sure.

Art, Yes, I agree. #2-flat hd, slotted. The ones I used happened to be bright plated, but no one will see these so almost any material or finish should do.

Dick, you sure are the busy beaver these days. yes

If you call and ask, sometimes they will break a box for you. But in this case, I suspect the charge for doing so would be more than the cost of the entire box!

Hi Tink,

You could try Macy's....they sell the cubby box door/hinge and facing as well as the proper screws.....

Might be worth a quick call or email

Just got of the horn with Mark Macy. They are a #2 X 1/4 screw. He said that they should be available at most decent hardware stores. He also said that the biggest problem is getting to stay in the old holes, if they have been and out very often. Thanks for the tip Pied! I also looked them up on the McMaster site, thanks Art. $2.11 for a box of 100.

So, another problem solved by the good folks on the BCF!

Yes Frank all of this frenzied activity comes about because I want to get the wiring harness in and someone recommended bench wiring the instrument panel and feeding the harness through the panel hole in the dash. Which makes perfectly good sense to me, BUT all the under dash stuff has to be done. I apologize to the BCF'r that shared that bit of wisdom with me for not remembering who it was, but thanks again.

Cheers, Tinkerman

I had a couple of loose screws...OK no comments crazyeyes ...and mixed up some fine sawdust with some wood glue and smushed it in the holes. I let it dry, and then put it the screws. They held nice and tight. You could also try the "glue in a piece of toothpick trick".

Yeah I suspect your right I've done that type of thing on furniture projects with fine results. So if I have a problem that's the route I will take.
