If you're interested in that 280, see if there's a fintail (220S/SE) on the lot. Fintail ("Heckflosse") is the model I'm looking for. The fintail (body W111) has different characteristics from that later 280 body (W108).

I can drive by, though I suspect it is highly unlikely they will have 2 - but, I'll look

Thanks Peter. That's one of the dozen or so I'm watching and/or bidding on. He's had that one on ebay several times. Always a mystery why they're sold and magically re-appear several weeks later.

Take a look at this one (altho' I have no idea how to buy a car in Canada, get title/reg, then drive it through customs). It's a 220 - slightly less chrome, only one carb, but otherwise pretty much the same as the 220S:

http://www.churchmotors.ca/index.php?action=listingview&listingID=30

A *very* nice interior by the way, rare for cars this old.

If anyone wants to browse through lots of info on these wonderful old "fintails", here's a good site in the Netherlands:

I don't think it is difficult to import a car - a couple of folk on the board have done it. I can also likely scare up a car guy in Duncan BC if you need someone to take a look.

Easier to buy a car in the US & take to Canada than it is to buy a car in Canada and bring to the US.

I brought a 70 442 convertible back from Canada many years ago. Hardest part was at the border. If I was you, what I would do is have the owner drive across followed by a friend. Deliver the car to you, sign the papers, get a ride back home. A car this old won't have emissions issues, etc. Double check but I think that's an option.

I bought a 1972 MKIII Cortina.I went through the
"Truck Route".It took 10 minutes & $90.
Tony,I've been told by Canadians, that it's much harder
to bring a car into Canada, than exporting one to the US.

Engine runs & transmission shifts....he doesn't know what it would take to make it run...I asked what it would take to get it running & he said "$800" & then he hung up! So, I called the [censored] back & asked when I could come see the car..."anytime" he said & hung up!

Tony - you have gone well above and beyond the call!

If I recall, you saw holes in the rockers and doors. Let's put that one out to pasture (as if it isn't already). Dealing with a seller like that, especially when I don't live in the area, would be a major hassle.

(I bet he's a Yankee ...) jester

Anyway, onward through the fog. Here's one a California buddy is taking a look at for me:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110455928668

Anyway, thanks again for all the trouble.

I agree...yes there was rust in front of both doors & in the doors themselves....the one in CA if a much better deal for around the same money....the one in CA has a little rust inside the front wheelwell on the side missing the bottom chrome but every part can be obtained!

& you can fly out to CA & drive it home as a prelude to your adventure!

If anyone cares to know, I have brought three cars from the U.S. to Canada and will explain the process in detail. Just PM me.
And the system is about the same going either way.
The biggest thing is documents!
