I just had 2 old rims sitting in the back corner of my garage media blasted and cleaned up. I'm about to paint them but having a difficult time finding a match with the 4 that are on my car. The rims on the car are painted in a glossy Light Grey that has a touch of Silver in it.

Everything at the auto stores and places like Home Depot are too Silver and Metallic.

Does anyone know what the original color of the painted rims was/is?

Thanks for the help.

Jim

The guy who tuned and balanced my wires (in Santa Cruz,Ca -well none in these parts) gave me a can of paint he said was an almost perfect match. I tried it on a scrap of metal and I could not see a difference. I put some on a brush and touch up a chip and it looked good except for it being lumpy form the brush. It was a store brand from OSH (Orchard Supply Hardware - smallish version of Home Depot in Ca). The can says 625 Aluminum Metallic.

Hi Jim,

Have you tried Moss?

You may find it hard to match what is on the car now.
If I were to paint mine, I'd blast them clean like you did, then have them powder coated. They will not chip as much down the road. I'd take the ones off the car and have all 6 power coated, that way you'd have two spares. Just throwing out an option.

Best of luck,
Roger

I bought a can of paint for wire wheels from Eastwood and have been very satisfied with it. Reasonably priced.
