Did anyone else see Peter Egan's column
in the latest issue? He writes about getting his
S1 Elan ready for the Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG)
in Georgia. He didn't get it done in time.Instead,
he went with his friend in the friend's Elan +2.
While reading the column I realized that I had
driven that car a few years back.I met my friend
Paul at Portland International Raceway at a Lotus
club track day on the Friday before the All British-
Field Meet on Labor Day Weekend.
He asked me if I'd drive his Lotus from Tillamook
(about 2 hours drive from Portland,on the Oregon Coast),
to the racetrack.I thought it over for about 2 seconds,
& replied "Sure".
I then followed Paul to his place in Tillamook. It
was getting dark,& as I strapped myself into the seat I
was thinking that was "The coolest thing - or the stupidest".
The car had Yokohama 008s on it.
It turned out to be one of the greatest drives that
I've done.The car handled great!Also,I couldn't read the
speedometer,as the lighting wasn't very good on it.Later,
in the daylight,I realized that I was over 100 in a few
places!Nice car,& a relly good sized trunk.

I sold that car to Chris for $5500.00

That was nearly a give away.

It was really fun to drive and pretty. I was stupid to sell it. Now I want another +2

I could put 4 autocross tires and a floor jack in the trunk and close the lid. (after removing the plywood floor)

Try that in any car you can name.

For whatever reason the +2's are like stepchildren. I drove mine almost daily for close to twenty years. Alternated it with the S-3.

Those were th' Days.
