Well, thanks to all of your suggestions, and pure dumb luck, I am down to the last item on my "First 30 Days To Do List." I installed my hood stick cover this morning, after remembering an old friend upholstery shop a few miles away who worked on my Miata tonneau cover a few years ago. He let me go over to his shop and use his lift-the-dot tool (punch). The holes took all of 10 minutes and the hardware about 20 minutes. Life is sure easy when you have the right tool.

I am told that the vent lid can only be adjusted thru the lid, and that it is a nightmare. (My lid opens about two inches, then falls closed as soon as the know is released.) Most people say to leave it alone, as all it does is bring hot air into the cabin, along with a grasshopper now and then.

Good points. However, being the neat-freak that I am, I would like it to work properly IF IT IS WITHIN THE REALM OF MY EXPERTISE (the original Gordon Badwrench). Back to the lid, I see a small hexagonal screw that looks like the pull wire runs to. Is this correct?

If this is correct, do I have to loosen that screw to adjust the length of the pull wire? If that is the case, I may be finished before I start, as I don't know if I have a socket that small. I have the necessary extensions and elbows for the socket, if I have the socket. But, first, I want to hear from someone who has DONE this project, and heed his/her words of wisdom.

You have come thru in the past, so I expect nothing less this time also. You have spoiled me rotten!! In a VERY short time!

My sister visits from Baltimore next week, and I am looking forward to taking her for a ride in my new TR.

Peace,

Yes, there is a small hex screw that pinches the pull rod. You loosen that to adjust the length of the rod. I used a small open-end wrench to turn mine, think it was 1/4" but I'm not certain offhand.

However, I suspect that is not your problem. The knob pulls out to open the vent; so having the rod adjusted too short would mean the lid would not close all the way, and having it too long would just mean the knob comes out farther. You must have something else interfering with the lid coming open, like the linkage assembled wrong.
