I need to replace the rubber buffers that are positioned in the channel in which the hood...oops, bonnet rests. You know, those rubber shim things about 1.5" long that guard against shakes and rattles between hood and body. Question: A while back I was rummaging through a misc. parts box and found one that connects with a small phillips head screw vs. the original rivet. I'm not keen to hassle with rivits if I can avoid it. Anyone know where I can get more buffers that attach with a screw vs. a rivet? Just seems so much easier, and probably just as effective. I've checked the usual sources (Moss, British Car Spec.) Many thanks,

British Car Specalist sell them. They are suppose to take a split pin type rivet that you just spread like a cotter pin (also available from BCS). I think it allows for movement that a screw doesn't.

In this case the rivets are really quite easy to deal with. You just stick them through and bend over the tips with a screw driver and perhaps some pliers. I would stick with the rivets.

Ahh...many thanks for the replies. When I saw "rivet" in the BCS catalog I assumed it'd involve a rivet tool & more involved labor. This sounds pretty easy.

If you are not a sitckler for originality (and some of us aren't), go to Home Depot and buy a roll of 1 inch wide, black, peel & stick foam insulation.

Start at the center of the hood opening near the windscreen and lay the insulation in the hood groove all the way around.

The hood will never rattle, and will seal tight as it closes.

From my BJ7, I replaced my clip on rubber on the hood ( soft top) bow and window surrounds, kept the old stuff and when the bonnet ( hood) started to rattle, I clipped some small sections onto the shroud - worked a treat - no rivets.
