Went by KTR Motorsports in Ayer MA earlier this afternoon to pick up some
rebuilt rear hubs for the Europa (new bearings, axles & hubs), and took a quick
peak at the Rover V8 powered GKN Europa that is undergoing a slow but
sympathetic restoration in their shop. What a beast!

Took a couple of quick snaps with my camera phone(excuse the lousy quality).

And here are my rebuilt hubs - all nice and shiney:

Also my "Twink" engine is "in process", but getting close (not KTR, but by Bill McCurdy near by).

Just wanted to share.

Rob

My understanding is its being restored as a road/show car. Pretty insane - the gear box does not really lend itself to road use based on what I've been told by folks who have actually driven this beast. Its a sequential close ratio racing box - you can do 90MPH in 1st, and 120MPH in 4th. Miss a gear and you have to pull over and start again.

KTR is a real Aladdin's cave of great vintage racers and classics. They had a Lotus open wheeler of some sort in there (Type 12 perhaps?)and what looked like a 17 or 23 as well as the usual Ferrari's, Porsches and what not (including a very cool and drop-dead gorgeous Lambo Mexico - never seen one before, a 2+2 coupe from the 60's). I always leave a little puddle of drool on the floor after visiting that place.

Up there with Paul Russell's in Essex MA on the drool scale IMHO. Russell's is another industrial shed not far from here, that I managed to stumble into that is chock full of gob-striking motor cars (he does all of Ralph Lauren's resto work - including the Bugatti Alantic, which was sitting in the front foyer when I stopped by there a couple of years ago).

KTR does just great work - both restoration and race prep. Real craftsmen. Just wish I could afford to put more business their way.

Rob.

Lotus 17 - front engined.
Lotus 23 - mid engined.

So which one?
