air conditioning duct ?

Almost looks like a heater intake.
Fits to the top of the heater from the firewall?
I thought the shape was a little different than that, of course, you always see them from above, not below.

Appears to be the duct that fastens to the bonnet at the back end of the l/h, as you face forward, air trunk. Feeds fresh air into the heater blower assembly. That style is for the series 2 I believe.

so what do I win?

Under the bonnet, fresh air duct.
