Gang,

I am ready for prep on Nigel and am sticking with red. The question is red, or blue-red (for the French bleu-red), or orange-red.

I am not solidly behind Salsa Red, a current color of Volkswagen.

Looking for advice, not that I will take it, but you know...

Be well,

Steve

I am partial to the Damson, which is a red/purple, depending on the light, a dark wine color, which is what my Spitfire is.

On a 3, I always liked a fire engine red, just short of retina burning.

Steve...I also have a 1960 TR3A (TS74568) that came from the factory as Signal Red. I purchased the car from the original owner who had let the car sit for 20 years. As I got closer to the time to paint the car I looked close at every red car that I saw. So many different shades! I wanted close to Signal Red...but wanted a shade that connected with my eye and also I would be able to get easy touch up paint for if needed. I ended up with 2000 Dodge Fire Red. Been very happy with it. After 5 years used a tad of the touch up paint this year. Good luck, Gil

Candy Apple Red looked good on hot rods, could be interesting on a 3. Nah...

Good old code 32 now translates to a 2005 chevy color FYI.Its nice to work with since the formula is so simple, there is no question of mismatching. Modern base/clearcoats have a lot of advantages too.
Never go to a dupont store for code 32,they have an error in their data base and will supply you with code 82(damask)

How does the #32 Signal Red compare to Pimento Red? I assume the Pimento has more orange in it. Is that correct?

Steve:
Go to a LBC car show. More than half of the cars will be red. Pick our several that you like, and ask what color they used.
Decide which color you like the best, on a similar sized car in the daylight.
If you pick a color from a sample, you'll be disappointed.
Emmett

My TR3 was just painted "Ferrari Red".
The closest match I could find at the paint shop to "Triumph Signal red".
It is bright red, but not red/orange.
My Opel GT is "Porsche red" which is orange/red.
I like the true red better on the Triumph, it looks classic.
But, whatever you like.
Lyle

Esteban,

Salsa Red is a very sexy color. Like the name implies--it's hot!!! I think Nigel would approve! Best of luck in this very imortant decision and let us know what you finally decide on. Don't forget to share a pix when it is all said and done! --Monica

Steve...Good advice in the above. Seeing the color on a similar car most helpful...much more so than a color chip.
And unless you are doing a high end concourse car...revert back to the old rule..."Its your car...and your money!!!"
From experience I can tell you though...when you go to a show
be ready for who ever judges the cars...to hold it against your car because...its red. True. Gil

Get a good photo of any red sidescreen car...and play with the color balances and such in PhotoShop. Even if you have to buy PhotoShop...and the computer to run it on, along with lessons, it'll still be cheaper than ending up with a multi-thousand-dollar paint job you don't like! wink

I remember pulling up to the paint shop about 20 years ago to see my pimento red tr6--looked like a pumkin on wheels--but I lived with it but was not happy

I like the darker red the 07-08' Beetles were painted. I want to paint the Mini that color.
