I'm landing tomorrow evening in San Fransisco for a 3 1/2 week vacation with my girlfriend. Not very much planned but the idea is to do a circle: Berkeley, Yosemite, Death Valley, Las Vegas, San Diego and spending around 2 weeks back up to SF. I have noted the Monterey Historic 15-17 august as a must see, but are there any other good motor museums, races, festivals that you would recommend?

In San Diego: http://www.sdautomuseum.org/ (and it's in the middle of the Museum district, there's tons of neat museums there.

In Los Angeles: http://www.petersen.org/

In Las Vegas: http://autocollections.com/ (I've got a huge photo collection from there on my web site)

The Blackhawk Museum in Danville can be done when you are in the San Francisco neighborhood. It treats cars as art.

Here is another car museum in Sacramento. It has more Fords and Chevys than British cars but there probably around a 100 cars. The docents are very good.

There is a tractor museum in Woodland that is interesting also. Be sure to go with a docent on this tour, or you will miss some of the local history.
