Any old threads relating to 5 speed conversions on big Healeys? Never considered it before but now that my "restored" Healey is back on the road with an inoperative OD that might be a cost effective alternative. Thanks, Bob

A Lempert or similar 3.5 or a non-overdrive 3.9 rear-end pumpkin swap from the stock 4.11 ratio makes 1st more usable with a Toyota 5 speed.

Anthony, did he check your OD in the car or on the bench? Mine is full of fluid and I'm going to check out the electrics tomorrow. Claimed to have been rebuilt by the PO. The four speed works fine but when I throw the toggle nothing happens. Turning a zillion rpms at 45 mph (in fourth) is not my idea of fun. Thanks for the clue and #, Bob

bob, i brought him the original trans. from my bj7 that id rebuilt, and the original overdrive that was operating well, and also another overdrive that i rebuilt, all deliverd to him as seperate components, he attached each overdrive to the trans and pressure checked each overdrive and ran the trans through its shifting paces, all checked out well but he insisted the new thrust bushing on the new lay shaft was too tight and changed it with a thinner one he was right, he has rebuilt trans. and overdrives, he showed me the conversion kits and rebuilt trans. for the switch over, luckily hes only about 35 min. from my house, was very generous with his time and information.
