Here's a few Loti seen at the New Hampshire Vintage a few weeks back....

I've actually been to two motorsports events *since* then: NASA @ Pocono and the new Englishtown Road Course.....where I saw a number of Elises as well.

These, of course, are Mallock clubman racers (from New England Classics), which are sort of like "cousins" to Lotus 7s.

For more vintage race pictures or NH, click on the "Race Events" link in my signature.

Nice pics!
What is No. 953? Did you find out? It looks a bit like a Lotus Mk VI, but not quite somehow.

According to the VRG newsletter at :

http://www.vrgonline.org/newsletters/2005/0805-Vol2.4.pdf

I found refences to "Phil Roettjer in his Lotus 6". You can read the name of the driver on the side (in the picture) and it looks like "Phil R----" to me, so I suppose this is the same preson.
I do not know Phil, but his car is lovely and it ran well all three days in NH. I never looked at the engine. I guess it could be an Anglia flathead, 1500 Ford OHV or maybe 948 Austin. I know they put all sorts of things in these cars.

This is a similar car at Watkins Glen (I took this last year)

By the way, here is a picture of a different Lotus (maybe also a 6?) I took at Lime Rock a few years ago. When you stood over it, the engine was very noticably offset (to the left) for driver footwell room.

Thanks!
I see that Phil's car is a 1500 Ford.

And, welcome, Gary.

I'll probably see more of these at the Pittsburgh Vintage next month.

This engine in the Lotus MkIV (#953) was a 1508 cc engine that was developed in the early 50's. It is not the Kent 1500 that we got in the Cortina and Anglia in the U.S. which was introduced in the 105E (harry potter car) as a 998cc engine.
I don't think any parts were interchangable, it was Ford of England's first OHV 4 cylinder to replace the 1172 sidevalve engine.

more limited info here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Zephyr_engine

the photo is linked so it is likely to disappear.

The Elan (#26) in the photos is Clark Lance's S1, Clark has been involved with with the Marque since he was a young boy as his father, Harald had an early Lotus mkIX and Elite also.

Another photo of 666 taken at Mt Tremblaut

The Consul engine didn't replace the sidevalve, which went on for a number of years in smaller cars than the Consul.

Hi Roger
You are right of cource, 1508 and the 6 cylinder version was brought out for the larger "then New" unibody Fords. The 100e anglia still had the sid valve 1172 until 1959 when the 107E version came out with the 998 cc Kent that was first used in the 105E.

ps this is EnFo history, not Lotus talk...

So?!?

We're quite the tolerant lot, y'know. wink

After all, Sir Colin had the foresight to use EnFo iron as th' base for some amazing engines! thumbsup
