i've got a series 2 rapier that i'm putting together for my wife, that needs some serious help. first off, when i bought the vehicle, the previous owner stated that most of the alpine series 1 drivetrain would interchange with the rapier series 2. can anyone confirm this, i need a distributor and oil pump for the motor and i cant seem to find the proper rapier part. will the apline stuff work in its place?

second, i'd like to find a original set of wheels. anyone have any ideas where to find a set of steel wheels and hubcaps.

thanks,
marc

Was the Rapier ever imported to the US ? Not that I recall, but that was lots of years ago. You may have to look to Europe for parts.

You might want to try to contact the Rapier registry

http://clubs.hemmings.com/frameset.cfm?club=sunbeam

or post your question to the Rootes section of the SAOCA forum
somebody will have a definite answer.

Your engine is a 1492cc motor right? It would be the same as a Series I Alpine engine (except your head would be iron). Even so, oil pump parts are getting scarce. The distributor probably could come from any 1592cc/1492 Alpine.

Is the pump totally a mess? Can you just clean up the faces of the stator and rotor?

With all that said, if you aren't too far into your rebuild and you don't have an issue with matching serial numbers you might consider going to the 1592cc engine or even the much later 1725cc Rootes motor.
