A while back there was some discussion about the differences in the floor pans for a Bugeye vs those for later Sprites and Midget. I took photos this weekend of each side by side. Dimensionally they are identical except for the measurement shown in the photos. More cut-outs and holes in the later Spridget version.

BTW, the later spridget pans are for sale. John Moore has first dibs.

Ray,

Thanks for doing the comparison. I'm interested, but what concerns me the most is that it looks like the transmission cut out for the later cars is wider. The smaller holes might be easy to fix, but if that's true it might be more difficult to fit. Thoughts?

Neither patch pan goes completely to the center. One version just provides more "trim to fit". Someone here will correct me in a moment if needed.

The Bugeye floor pans are a total of four inches shy from meeting in the middle, basically the drive shaft tunnel.

The later Spridget floor pans exactly cover the entire bottom when butted together. It's not clear to me why there is a difference.

Looking at the underside of my Bugeye, it appears that the line of spot welds for the tunnel to the floor are the same four inches apart.

So now I'm confused. Are you saying the tunnel area in both the BE and later spridget is the same, but on the BE floor pans theres is extra metal you have to trim in that area? I just measured my BE tunnel and it appears to be approx 10.75 inches between the rails, so I would appear the later pans would fit, right? If so I'm interested in making them work.

The floor pans for the later Spridgets (non-Bugeye) are an exact fit in every dimension for all Sprites and Midgets including Bugeyes. There is nothing to trim from these. The floor pans for the Bugeye are two inches each (total of for inches) more narrow in width. The difference in width is all under the tunnel not in the footwell area. Look at the photos that have the measuring tape. The two inch difference will be apparent there.
