Looks like the water pump seal has given into a few years of sitting dry and likes to leak a bit. I'll need to replace the bearing and seal or the entire pump with a new one.

Any suggestions? I know the new ones will not accept the old water tap which I do have now.

There is a good post on this in the archives within the past year. Bottom line is there is person that does a good job rebuilding them. New ones are not that expensive. They have a sealed bearing so no grease hole. Make sure you get the right width pulley. Check your fan for loose rivets.

Not to be too picky but mjobrien has a 100 not a 100/6 or 3000.

This means he not only has one width of pulley and also no rivets in the fan.

Another thing!
I obtained a replacement "Coventry Spares" water pump earlier this year and found that the pump body fouled on the inside of the pulley.
The replacement pump has a sharp edge at the front whereas the original is champhered at 45 degrees.
Also, as my 100 was supplied without heater for the warm Australian climate, the old pump was blank where the outlet port for the heater would have been! The replacement pump had a port that I had to seal off.

Who is this "person" who rebuilds water pumps?

When I bought my car half done...the water pump was supposed to have been rebuilt.. hence it failed quickly..never been touched..I bought a new one.. since I was not going to show it concourse...and I wanted to get the car on the road ASAP....kept the old one...

I may have it rebuilt in the future..that is my option..new pump working great..

Thanks to all, I had thought to do the same as Pete, get a new one for now and keep the old one for a later rebuild....

I installed a new Moss Motors supplied water pump and all seems well. I did notice a slight leak at the top from the what use to be the plug for Grease? I did run the pump for a few minutes dry to get the seal to lap, per the Moss tech tip.

I wonder of this will get better or worse? Should a few drop of coolant bother me?
