My 1969 was originally equipped with a heater but the box, fan motor, inlet flange and tubing were missing when I bought it. I am gathering the parts for the heater but I don't know what type of inlet I should be looking for. Does anyone have a pix?

A description would be Ok, just something for me to go on in case I see one on Ebay or something. I'd like to get the right one.

You mean just a picture of the heater box & hose? Should be easy to see on most engine bay pictures... be aware, I think that the later versions (1500) have the inlet hose on the opposite side of the car.

Mine is missing. There were changes over the years to that part before the 1969 MKIII model I have. I just want an idea what I am looking for. It's hard to know what parts to look for when parts are missing and one is a newb to Midgets as I am. I have the resto book, I have searched the web for pix using Yahoo and Google image searches and I check Ebay daily. The heater box I bought is similar to 1969 but is earlier I believe because it has the metal snorkel with the flapper in it. I think 1969 had the flapper in the fan inlet? I don't have a fan or the behind the grill inlet yet. It does not have to be correct because this car is a driver, but I want to make sure that the behind the grill inlet I get will fit.

Aaah! So the cutout in the sheet metal, that the lower end of the fresh air intake hose feeds to? Pretty sure it's 4" round?

Isn't it part of the nose cone assembly?

IT is part of the front valence. There is a cutover there bit I've never been able to figure out how the heater hose gets around the fender support brace. That runs directly in back of the opening in the valence.
I simply let the heater hose hang down into the airstream. Get good airflow at low speeds.

Your only missing a short 2" long 4" diameter tube with a flange.

Right Tony, but I think he is missing the part the end of the hose slides over.

There is no part there on the later cars.

So, we have a guy from SoCal and another from Bama discussing installing their heater boxes - can I clarify, just how sympathetic should the rest of us be? But if I am not kept at a perfect 68-72f, I will freeze or wilt. The temp must be puuuuurfect, and it must be perfect noooooooow. </whine> I figure I will just secure the VB-sourced plastic "repro" hose with zip ties through those three holes.

Sorry guys, my bad.
There is no part there on the later cars. I saw on a 77 in the junk yard the remnants of the inlet hose. It was plastic, and had a molded end in the form of a sort of scoop and it appeared to be ribbed in a way that suggested that it should be pushed through the grill apron so that it was retained by the ribs. Perhaps this is how it was in 1969?

hehehe...but I need some of those wiring harness clamps in the photo - the ones along the top edge of the grille opening. I'll keep an eye out for them on my next trip to the boneyard.

No clue Tony, Guess I would go with 58Custom what ever his name is. I added my name to my sig. The handles, 58custom and Tom Custom, are used on many different forums and they help me reference posts. I'm into a lot of stuff. OK. I'll get one tomorrow. I just got my heater motor today and put it all together. I just shoved the replacement hose through the inner apron and it is held in place nicely by tension.
So now I know that my fan switch is broke. Figures.

Fan switch won't be broke, just needs cleaning up and green stuff removed from it. Likely brushes in the fan motor need renewed as well. My fan almost never works when sitting still but a little movement from driving and it kicks right in.

My fan almost never works when sitting still but a little movement from driving and it kicks right in. I tested th fan before the install and it works well. Ebay find. My problem now is removing the switch. I read the factory manual on how to use a screwdriver to remove the switch portion from the bezel, but now I have to go under and try it out. Kinda cramped under there.

OK. I'll get one tomorrow. Thanks. I finally found 3 of those wiring clips that I took off my car...want to see how many you have on the other side & their location. Tom - does your car have an oil cooler?

Tom - does your car have an oil cooler? No oil cooler. I just reassembled the heater and reinstalled the grill yesterday afternoon, and the day before I installed a VB-sourced relay harness (with bright yellow sleeving, yuk) for the headlights. But, the number and locations of the harness clips holding the headlight and parking light wires remains unchanged. Two clips to the right of center and three to the left.

Bumped because I need the photos as I install my wiring behind the grill. Mouse over pix, right click, save as and it's your forever. Can I provide other pix? I just put the carbs back on and took it for a spin. I opened the heater vents and turned on the blower. Bunch of leaves and pine needles blew out all over my kid's shoes. Well, it works!
