Is the rearview mirror mounting post supposed to be bare metal, black or the color of the interior? My PO spray painted it black, which has deterioriated to where it looks pretty bad. You think you know your car until you start looking at things that you've just taken for granted for all those years.

The on in my car is not original, but their was a broken mirror in the parts box I got with the car. If noone who knows for sure answers, I can try and dig it out (I seem to remember that it was gold paint backed)

I think you're right about the gold painted back. I was looking at the photos on healeysix.net, and it looks like it might be silver on the post. That's how mine is tight now, after I got the black paint off that the PO had put on. By the way, next week is the rear panels for the interior, so I'll be getting your pattern back to you in two or three more weeks!

My post was Chromed, my new specially extended one, to get over the parked soft top on my BJ7 is stainless. I think that the back of the mirror housing was black crackled finish, its the sort of thing that you do not really take a note of as you say. I will check when I get home.

Thanks, Bob - it looks like it was chromed under the black paint....
