My 66 BJ8 came with quite an assortment of headlight parts, all attached to the car, and from 20 feet looking just fine. Upon disassembly, however, the truth evolves. As I understand, the later 3000's had two adjuster lamps, as opposed to the earlier three adjuster models. There are apparently two different inner rim assemblies to accommodate this change. Mine had both types, but only one type of bucket, each of which has three nuts welded to the rear of the bucket, apparently for the adjusters. So here's the question: If I go with new inner rims, with the correct two adjusters, will they fit properly to my buckets? Alternatively, how can I determine if my buckets are actually two adjuster buckets? The devil is surely in the details.

I have only one crappy photo of my ‘67s bucket, the two adjuster one. Don’t know if this helps. Looking at the Moss diagrams (not easy) it doesn’t look like there is a spring that holds the mounting ring back against the bucket. The spring hooks into the bucket underneath the tape you see in the photo.

Thanks, Greg. That's very helpful. I'll bet my buckets are replacements after a damage. Might be best just to bite the bullett and get the whole, correct assemblies.
