I don't wanna offend the purists here.... but there are a ton of mods besides the wheels that are not visible.

Ooooooook, was just going by the reactions to ditching points and condenser and leaving the bronze axes behind...

Mods are: 1700 stroker TC with balance and blueprint, race prepped rods, forged pistons and big main caps, baffled sump, 40 mm Dell'Ortos, 4-2-1 headers and full stainless exhaust. Ported cylinder head from ex C Prod national champ Europa. Modified airbox cover. Ultra close ratio trans with Kelvedon quick shifter, 3.90 rear diff and CV axles. TTR FIA spec 26R chassis, fully adjustable front and rear tubular arms, front ride height adjustable Spax with uprated anti roll bar, rear Konis with ride height adjustable small ID springs. 26R replica wheels and spinners, custom made to fit stock hubs. Safety Devices roll bar, Fuel Safe cell, completely Aeroquipped fuel linesand 26r steering wheel. Memory is fading, getting a headache form thinking about the cost.

A far different car than the pix I posted, then. I've indigestion just READIN' the list! I saw the Dell'Orto's and thought: "THAT ain't what I remember..." And a LOT of shiny bits wot weren't there to begin with, either!

Went to a car show some years ago. Saw those nice polished Jag cam covers, and decided that was for me. The one on the car is actually the third one that I have done, it has benefitted from experience.

Have you by any chance ever had the car at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix in 2005? I recall seeing the car there, or at least something very similar. Hope to have my Elan there this year

Don't really have any figures on speed. I do know that, with the ultra close box's 2:51 first gear, it is not super fast off the mark. IMO, 30-90 is where it really shines. That's fine with me, burnouts and drag racing are pretty low on my priority list.

Just wonderin', couple of questions on that Lotus: 1) What's the retail price tag on a Lotus like that? 2) About how much HP would such a Lotus engine put out? Really exotic-looking. Chic magnet!

Thanks guys. The price tag is, ummm, waaayy too high. All the body and paint and other labor, outside of engine machining, was done by me, so that saved a lot. The motor was set up to be strictly a street unit, geared more toward torque than sheer hp. Cams are relatively mild, and it still retains stock (Lotus Big Valve) valves and valvetrain. On a Dynojet chassis dyno, it produced peaks of 140 hp, and 133 lb/ft of torque.

Purist or not it's impressive. Polished valve covers and all. Not sure the old +2 would look good with them!
