Start your engines!! It has taken me more hours than I care to remember to get the Virtual Rally game re-written to work with the new forum software, but I finally think I have it!

A new rally game is now underway as of tonight, 21 Oct 2007! The game has 15 legs! It is essentially the same rally as was played once before, but I made a few changes so its not exactly the same! The game will end on 30 Nov 2007 and new players will not be accepted after 11 Nov 2007.

Many of you have played the Virtual Rally and know how it works, but if your new to it (even if your not) then just go to the rules page and read the rules and itroduction PLEASE read that before you start! There is a link to the Rules and Introduction right on the main Virtual Rally page.

To get to the game, click on the Virtual Rally link in the "Site Links" box on the left side of the page, or click on the same link under the Site Links drop-down menu above.

Please use this forum for discussing the rally but DO NOT divulge any features of the rally legs! In short, please keep your knowledge of the rally details to yourself!

Oh, and the prize for the winner will be a wonderful British Car print from one of our very own BCF-member artists, Cliff Cramp. I have one of his prints and it is really terrific! (Thanks Cliff!!)

Please let me know if you run into any bugs. A couple things to remember for sure:

1) Once you start the game (get to the page with the route choices or beyond) DO NOT leave the page to go to a map program then try to come back...it will NOT work. If you need to visit, for example, Mapquest.com, open another instance of your browser.

2) Once you have taken a turn (entered a route and speed) do NOT try to use your back button to try again. Not only will it not work, but it will flag you as trying to cheat and may get your disqualified.

3) Read the Into and Rules - understand how the game works.

4) Remember, that each leg "may" have a built-in fudge factor. Not all routes do, but some do. The fudge factor works like this: Say a route has a fudge factor of "12" in the database. What that means is, when the game computes your time, it could randomly add (or subtract) up to 12 miles from the actual distance before doing the time calculation. Of course this could throw off your time. The fudge factor in the database for a leg just sets an upper-limit. So a fudge factor of 12 could result in 12 miles, 5 miles, or no miles being add/subtracted...its random. Some legs have no fudge factor, other have fairly small factors and a few have factors that could be as big as 12 miles. So if you think you had the perfect route and speed, but your time seems off from what you thought, you may have been hit with a random fudge factor. This keeps the game interesting and prevents someone with a sophisticated map program from walking away with the win every time - it adds a little variability and luck to the game.

Have fun and may the best driver win (or the luckiest)

Basil

Yes I did, but I would have rather have seen you on one where fudge factor got me worse. ;\)

However, there are many legs left where the Pot Hole Gang can still get me!

Yikes! I knew I'd overlook something! The description of two of the legs mentions that it starts in Reno, but I should have added the Starting Point Text which is a little more specific. Try it now.

I wanted to run down the old lady, but my navigator made me stop. Worked out for the best. Mid pack for me, and gaining. Tally Ho!
