As the owner of British Car Forum, I want to address an important issue.
We have over 8000 members here and thousands of posts each week are made. We try to keep track of them all, but it is sometimes impossible to monitor every post that gets made. On rare occasions a moderator will decide that a post needs to be removed for whatever reason. When that happens, there will often be some folks who feel the action that was taken was not appropriate, and I can understand that. We try not to be too heavy handed in this regard, but threads do get removed from time to time.
You might not realize it, but running this forum is nearly a full time job for me and I’m spending a lot more $$money$$ than I take in from occasional donations or shirt purchases (but thanks to those who have supported BCF over the years). Certainly I’m not being compensated for the tremendous amount of time I put into running and continuously improving the BCF. It’s easy to forget sometimes that BCF is a privately owned and operated site.
At the same time, several folks have graciously offered to help me run the place by acting as moderators. They get nothing in return for their time and efforts. If a moderator takes an action, and you don’t feel it was appropriate, please do NOT defy the moderator and continue to post that same stuff. If you owned this forum and someone did that to your moderators, would you allow it? Think about it.
If you feel a post or thread was removed that should not have been, the first thing you should do is PM the moderator and express your concern. If you still feel the issue is not resolved, you can then PM me and I’ll make a final decision. It may not be the decision you want (then again maybe it will) but it will be final. What I can not allow, however, is for members to ignore the decisions of the moderators and post what they know the moderator does not want posted.
Running a forum of this size is sometimes a little like herding cats – very difficult and a lot more time-consuming than you may realize. It is especially impossible to please everyone, so just accept the fact that sometimes things may happen that you don’t agree with. Hopefully the rare occasions that something is done that you don’t agree with will not overshadow all the other good things about BCF.
If you’ve made it this far, thanks for listening.
Basil
