What is a wiki? The term Wiki is short for wiki-wiki, which means quick in Hawaiian. The first Wiki was created (and dubbed "Wiki-Wiki") by Ward Cunningham, a Portland, OR computer programmer, in 1995. The largest Wiki is the remarkable Wikipedia, which now contains more than 300,000 publicly-contributed entries.

The BCF Wiki Project is intended to allow an open, collaborative environment in which the members of British Car Forum can continuously collaborate on and improve the content and usefulness of the wiki database. Plus, it's FUN! If this wiki idea works out the way I hope it will, I may eventually phase out the BCF "Knowledge Base" in favor of this wiki.

This forum, titled The Wiki Project, is a place where all you members who wish to collaborate with others on the wiki project can come to discuss the wiki. Anyone can add stuff to the wiki, or edit existing stuff (except for pages that are locked due to administrative or copyright reasons).

It is my hope that, given the collaborative nature of the wiki, members will feel some "ownership" in the project and it will (I hope) grow into a much more robust and useful repository of British car information that a normal, static knowledge base.

You can access the BCF Wiki by clicking the BCF Wiki link in the Site Links box on the left, or the BCF Wiki link under the Site Links dropdown menu in the upper navigation menu.

This post is just to introduce you to the wiki project, so I will lokc this particular thread. But please use THIS forum if you have questions about the wiki, comments, ideas, etc...

Have fun!

Basil
